Waterproofing fleece for existing structures and fresh concrete

Polyfleece SX® 1000 from StekoX® is a swellable, waterproofing fleece that can be used on existing buildings as well as with fresh concrete in new buildings. All concrete surfaces that are in contact with the ground in any above or below ground civil engineering construction can be permanently and reliably waterproofed with the fleece. The fleece is installed either in strip form or as a fully covering external seal on to the reinforced concrete constructions. One side of the fleece features a swellable, modified polymer coating which with a swelling rate of 150% ensures a particularly effective seal.

 

In order to waterproof existing structures, Polyfleece SX® 1000 is bonded directly to the structure with the coated side facing towards the concrete surface. For this procedure, a low viscosity sealing compound that has been especially developed for Polyfleece SX® 1000 is also used. Before applying the sealant, the surface in question is to be cleaned to ensure that it is firm and free of any loose matter which will then guarantee the sealant providing the best possible adhesive joint. Between the concrete surface and the fleece, swelling pressure triggered by moisture is built up which effectively seals any cracks that may appear in the fleece’s coating caused for instance when filling in with earth. The Polyfleece SX® 1000 coating has a thickness of 1.4 g/cm³ and can withstand temperatures of minus 40 to +100 degrees Celsius.

 

As a bonded seal, Polyfleece SX® 1000 can also be used when working with fresh concrete. In order to seal a floor slab, the coated side of the fleece is laid out in the direction of the foundation course. When waterproofing an in-situ concrete wall, the coated side of the fleece is to be fixed in the direction of the shuttering. The reinforcements are afterwards laid directly on the uncoated side of the waterproofing fleece. The uncoated side of the polymer fleece forms, as a result, the basis for the concreting work. It absorbs some of the water contained in the concrete allowing a proper bond to be formed between the concrete and the waterproofing fleece. A secure and effective fresh concrete bonded seal is the result.
