DICA Releases New Resource for Determining Soil Bearing Capacity
DICA has released a new resource on its website to help users better assess and understand ultimate soil strengths and allowable ground bearing pressures. Before setting up a crane or other equipment with outriggers, it’s essential to evaluate the ground conditions to properly position the equipment and to use appropriate pads (area, strength and stiffness) to keep the equipment upright. Knowing the strength of the ground helps planners and operators identify the pad area needed to reduce bearing pressures to levels the ground can withstand. Read more >>
Stable and strong in the wind – Liebherr power hits the road
In October, Austrian crane hire company Felbermayr sent its new Liebherr LTM 1300-6.3 mobile crane to a wind farm in the east of the country. Metso launches upgraded Evaporative Cooling Tower, a furnace dry gas cleaning solution with efficient cooling and excellent process control
Metso is launching the upgraded Evaporative Cooling Tower, an efficient dry gas cleaning solution designed to cool down hot furnace off-gases by means of evaporation. The Evaporative Cooling Tower, which is normally followed by a hot electrostatic precipitator or a bag filter, cools the gas from about 600-700 °C to about 200-350 °C. The tower operates dry, meaning that all water added is evaporated. The small droplets in the tower evaporate rapidly, which reduces the retention time and length needed to ensure complete evaporation. Read more >>
Like a giant “vacuum cleaner” - Mercedes-Benz Actros on rails cleans track beds in the Netherlands and Belgium
AH Vrij, a specialist company in landscaping, excavation and infrastructure from Wateringen in the Netherlands, has commissioned a Mercedes-Benz Actros with excavator body and railway undercarriage for the maintenance of railway lines in the Netherlands and Belgium. The third-generation, family-owned company, founded 65 years ago, selected the yellow Actros for its latest acquisition. The paint is required for certification: The truck with the three-pointed star is a three-axle vehicle with a large double blower. Rick Vrij, whose grandfather founded the enterprise, says: “It’s actually a truck with a large vacuum cleaner on top of it. And this vacuum cleaner will be used in the Netherlands and Belgium. Since its completion, the vehicle has not stopped.” The Actros with the “vacuum cleaner” cleans the Schiphol tunnel four times a year, removing dust, sand, cans and paper. This takes 27 nights for the enterprise to accomplish. AH Vrij also thoroughly “vacuums” a seven-kilometer-long railway tunnel in Belgium on twelve weekends. Read more >>
