From 15 to 17 September 2015, experts and young professionals will be holding forth at the DVS CONGRESS about joining, cutting and coating technologies. Parallel to this, visitors to the DVS EXPO can inform themselves about products and services in these fields. One key focus of the specialist colloquia and exhibition this year is on the topic of “Robots in welding technology”.

With the KUKA KR 5 arc, KUKA Roboter GmbH is presenting a KUKA robot for the low payload category in Nuremberg that exhibits unrivaled precision during welding. It is this precision that will make all the difference between victory and defeat in the 1st DVS (Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e.V.) robotic welding competition.

On 15 and 16 September, participants will be trying to outdo one another in programming, teaching and welding. 24 operators of all ages and from all branches of industry can take part in the competition and demonstrate their ability, including on a KR 5 arc with a Fronius power source. Each operator may weld up to three test items and then decide which to submit for evaluation. In addition to the practical part of the contest, the specialist knowledge of the participants will also be put to the test. Multiple choice questions will test their expertise in the field of robotics in welding technology.

Successful participation in the competition will be rewarded with an operator and setter qualification test certificate in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14732 (DIN EN 1418). Furthermore, there are fantastic prizes and training vouchers from GSI (international welding technology society) and the individual robot manufacturers to be won for first, second and third places at each robot/power source combination. The winners will be announced at the exhibitor evening on 16 September.

Information about the conditions of participation and how to register can be found on www.dvs-ev.de/roboter.

In addition to the competition, the KR 5 arc will also be showcasing its flexibility, path accuracy and high quality standards in programming and welding demonstrations at the KUKA booth. The “Roboter 2015” conference on 16 and 17 September will be dealing with the current state of the art and application-specific system solutions.
