The exhibition stand N 98 of the special vehicle manufacturer from Vilshofen on the Danube is situated in the open-air section of the Hanover exhibition center in the 4th alley directly adjacent to the halls 14 & 15.

Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH manufactures custom-made vehicles for highly specialized fields of application for which exemplary vehicle combinations from the most different branches of business are on exhibition in Hanover. New are chassis modification and specially mounted implements from a single source. A Mercedes-Benz Arocs 4151 AK which has been converted from a four-axle truck into a three-axle truck serves as an example. It is equipped with an airsuspended rear axle, two steered front axles, a Hiab loading crane superstructure behind the driver’s cab and a fifth wheel coupling and it combines increased manoeuvrability with high payload capacity. Thus, it is predestinated in particular for challenging maintenance tasks in the energy industry. Another innovation is the expansion of the range of applications for the Agro Mover by means of equipment with a mechanical rear power take-off and a hydraulic rear power lift. Additionally, innovative axle modifications, hydraulic steering systems, crew cabs with specific interior work for particularly demanding applications within the fields of fire service, open-cast mining and in the mining sector, special scopes of installation for preliminary setup and retrofitting and many other items are being presented.

The appropriate solution for specific operational requirements

The chassis modified by Paul Nutzfahrzeuge are built based upon high-quality standard chassis whose range of applications are considerably increased by means of the highly specialized conversions by Paul. Each of the extremely sturdy chassis is tested with regard to its suitability for conversion according to the requirements profile defined by the customer. Subsequently it is subjected to an individual customization for the specific intended application. The custommade optimization with the required equipment and adaptations based upon thoroughly tested high-quality OEM standard chassis guarantees an excellent price performance ratio for the customer. At the same time, the operational safety as well as the availability are ensured under all topographical and climatic operating conditions at the intended place of operation around the world. The access of the customer to the global service network of Paul Nutzfahrzeuge as well as to the world-wide repair network of the individual manufacturers of the basic vehicle, the special bodies and superstructures and the mounted implements also contribute to this fact considerably.

Energy industry: increase in efficiency through enhanced manoeuvrability and high payload capacity in off-road maintenance applications

At the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2016 Paul Nutzfahrzeuge presents a new concept for all-wheel drive vehicles featuring two steered front axles with leaf suspension, an air-suspended rear axle, a fifth wheel coupling with a long pull handle and a crane superstructure for applications in der energy industry. The loading crane is permanently installed behind the driver’s cab. The optionally installed ballast bridge is removable. Since the fifth wheel coupling is then freely accessible it is possible to tow an additional low-loader. With this special equipment the vehicle is predestinated for maintenance, servicing and replacement of power pylons away from the road and in difficult terrain. Apart from the high transport capacity for material, machines and tools the pylons can be unloaded and set up at the place of operation by the vehicle's own loading crane, thus saving time and costs since a second vehicle is not required. Other advantages of this vehicle are – in addition to the high tonnage and the excellent manoeuvrability – above all the high lifting capacity, the large boom range and the efficient lifting performance.

To increase agility and manoeuvrability, the four-axle Mercedes-Benz Arocs 4151 AK 8x8/4 basic chassis has been converted into a three-axle Arocs 4151 AK 6x6 truck. Because the two steered front axles mounted in the basic chassis had to be maintained due to the required load capacity for the high transport weight and operating weight of the truck-mounted loading crane, the conversion was done at the rear axle.

The heavy Hiab X-HIPRO 638 E-6 JIB 150X-6 truck-mounted crane is equipped with an additional camera, a working platform and an additional articulated arm (a so-called "jib") with a six-position telescopic extension boom. The jib increases the reach of the crane boom by 9 m to a total of 32.2 m. Sideways of the articulated arm a Rotzler winch is installed with a 10-mm rope with a length of 69 m for the lifting and lowering of loads. For example, it is used for loading and unloading tubes or power pylons.

Construction sector: crew cab enables crew transports for extremely harsh off-road applications in mining and open-cast mining

Acting for applications in the international construction industry Paul Nutzfahrzeuge shows a Mercedes-Benz Zetros 2743 A 6x6 with crew cab in Hanover. The extremely robust short-nose truck is the prime example for extremely harsh off-road crew transports in mining and open-cast mining applications. Equipped with a crew cab it is an outstanding example for the efficient cooperation between Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks (MBS) at Wörth in Germany, the Mercedes-Benz manufactory Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT) at Molsheim in France and their qualified partner Paul Nutzfahrzeuge at Vilshofen.

For safe staff transport of up to six persons the driver’s cab was extended by 700 mm by Paul Nutzfahrzeuge and expanded to a fully-fledged crew cab. The conversion of the underbody occurred though additionally welded longitudinal beams and crossmembers. The roof section was extended by means of additionally inserted frame sections and roof struts and the rear panel as well including the original trim of the Zetros was moved to the rear by the Paul engineers by around 700 mm altogether.

The robust ladder frame of the Zetros platform chassis on display in Hanover in steel-grey metallic paint offers high flexibility for individual superstructures within the scope of its gross vehicle weight of 25 t and its payload capacity limit of 12 t. The wheelbase of the three-axle truck is 4,450 mm + 1,450 mm. The permanent all-wheel drive with differential locks in combination with a manual Mercedes-Benz G 240-16/11,7-0,69 transmission and a two-speed VG 2400 transfer case ensure high and interruption-free traction. The six-cylinder in-line Diesel engine OM 457 LA with an output of 315 kW (428 hp) and a displacement of 12 liters as well as the complete powertrain are designed for extreme climate zones.

Paul Nutzfahrzeuge can perform the building up and extension of a crew cab on all 4x4 or 6x6 types of the Mercedes-Benz Zetros. On request an extension or shortening of the crew cab by a maximum of 150 mm is also possible. The installation of a bench seat for up to four persons in opposite direction of travel, an auxiliary heating system and a variety of additional equipment is also possible.

Fire brigade operation: equipment and retrofitting for light fire trucks Municipal fire trucks, another special field of the Lower Bavarian modification expert, are represented by a Fuso Canter 6c18 D with a personnel crew cab for a 1+5 crew, a self-supporting fire engine body made of glass reinforced plastic (GRP) from the Croatian superstructure expert S Tempera and a permanently installed fire pump which is driven by the power take-off. The vehicle complies with the fire-fighting standard EN 1846-2 and can be used as a medium fire engine or as logistics equipment vehicle (GW-L1).

The retrofitting with numerous details was done by Paul Nutzfahrzeuge. Among them ranks an oil cooling system for the power take-off in order to increase the power take off to 34 kW and thereby the operating time as well to at least four hours. A new floor covering made of aluminum checker plate with skirting board was installed by Paul Nutzfahrzeuge into the crew cab of the Fuso Canter. The door opening angles of the doors in the rear area of the crew cab have been increased from approximately 60 ° to 75 ° in order to make the entry and exit for the rear crew members as fast and comfortable as possible. Additional entries with a step height of 280 mm and a step width of 380 mm facilitate the access into the rear area of the cab. A new bench seat was installed there with a width of 1,700 mm and a seat height of 400 mm so that a headroom of 950 mm could be implemented.

Agro Mover: increased efficiency in agriculture and forestry

The Agro Mover designed by Paul Nutzfahrzeuge is an all-round heavy-duty vehicle in the range of agriculture and forestry as well as in supplementary municipal fields of application. It enables the time and cost saving combination of implement application in the field and on the grassland with transport operations at a speed of up to 80 km/h, without the necessity for reloading at the field edge. At the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2016 the Agro Mover based upon a Mercedes-Benz Arocs 2051 AK 4x4 is on display in the two-axle "Grounder" version and shown with two path-breaking innovations: a powerful pair consisting of a mechanical rear power take-off and a hydraulic rear power lift will enhance the range of applications of the Agro Mover in the future by the manufacturer-independent operation of heavy rear-mounted attachments. In combination with the integrated load-sensing hydraulics, nine hydraulic fittings at the rear end and an ISOBUS terminal, this enables the operation of up to altogether five different attachments and mounted implements at the same time. This places the Agro Mover in the vicinity of the high competence in implement operation which up to now was exclusively the field of tractors and other agricultural towing vehicles and working machines.

The new mechanical rear power take-off enhances the great number of additional applications in all European climate zones even further. The operation of loader waggons and silage trailers, water tanks, field sprayers, fodder mixers or slurry tanks as well as wood chippers and the most different implements for mowing, mulching and milling or the attachment of machinery for carrying out winter services tasks is possible without problems. The central positioning at the rear end in the "three-point standard position" allows the operation of each attachment at once, without extensive re-fitting work.

To hitch up and move the most diverse accessory equipment at the rear end of the Agro Mover Paul Nutzfahrzeuge has developed a hydraulic three-point rear power lift which is perfectly matched to the complete vehicle. Even without ballast it develops a lifting power of up to 4.5 t. When ballasted with a heavy front weight of 1,500 kg the new rear power lift is able to lift up to 7 t – which is more than enough for heavy rear-mounted attachments. It permits a ground conserving soil cultivation with disc harrow or toothed harrow as well as applications with cultivator and even with a heavy-duty subsoiler. Furthermore, the debut vehicle is equipped with a fifth wheel coupling and a height-adjustable hitch ball coupling, LED lighting, a 12V voltage converter at the rear end, a semi-automatic tire pressure control system and allterrain high-flotation wide base Terra tires as well as an attachment plate for winter services equipment.
