Thanks to a concerted fundraising effort over the past 12 months, materials handling specialist Briggs Equipment has presented Parkinson’s UK with a cheque for £14,000.
Employees at the Staffordshire-based company nominated Parkinson’s UK as its charity for 2014/15. The charity has been working to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's for more than 40 years.
Parkinson’s UK provides a range of support and information services to the 127,000 people in the UK living with Parkinson’s and to their families, including a free confidential helpline, website, publications and a UK-wide team of information and support workers. Training and resources are available to health and social care professionals, to help improve services for people affected by Parkinson's and the charity is leading the way to find a cure.
Briggs Equipment’s workforce has spent the year organising a series of fun-filled activities to raise money to help Parkinson’s UK continue to fund its important work. Cake baking, golf days, raffles, plant sales and ‘dress down’ days were among the many events organised, while staff also sponsored colleagues taking part in cycle rides and marathons.
Ian Savage, Corporate Relationships Manager at Parkinson’s UK, who received the cheque on behalf of the charity, said: “Parkinson’s UK is committed to finding a cure and better treatments to improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.
“But to fund research and provide support and information services we are entirely reliant on donations. Thank you to everyone at Briggs Equipment for raising £14,000 – your fundraising really will make an incredible difference to our vital work.”
Following a company-wide vote, Briggs Equipment will be supporting The Prince’s Trust in 2015/16. The company is a patron of the youth charity, having pledged £100,000 over a five-year period to help give disadvantaged young people the practical and financial support they need to move into work, education or training. Staff are already busy thinking up new and exciting initiatives to get their fundraising year off to a great start.
