Double-deck Flexliner to feature in outside display at IAA

Langendorf will show five trailers in the forthcoming IAA trade show. The double-deck Inloader (Flexliner) can be found outside in section T13, with four other Langendorf trailers featuring on the company’s stand inside Hall 27 on booth E06.

The flexibility and loading capacity afforded by two Langendorf double deck trailers can replace three conventional trailers, bringing significant advantages of the Flexliner.

In Germany, there is an ongoing discussion about Euro Combi´s, trailers with a length of 17.30 m or even 25.25 m combinations. They all have the purpose to increase the capacity of the vehicle. The Langendorf Flexliner can do all this, but within the normal European road regulations (16.50 m length and 4.00 m height).

The complete combination is within the European road regulations. There is no need for special permits and the Flexliner has a European Type Approval (COC).

A Flexliner can transport up to 55 Europallets or 87 roll containers per trip. This means up to 66% more freight per trip, resulting in about 30% less costs per trip.

If you want to transport a load from A to B, you can replace three conventional trailers by two Flexliners. All costs related to the third vehicle can be saved and, given the increasing lack of drivers in the market, this can be considered as an advantage for the Flexliner.

The Flexliner can be operated in conjunction with any conventional tractor unit. Loading and unloading is done by means of a lift in the rear of the trailer. It can be used in loading bays or even independently on the ground without additional devices or infrastructure.

The solid box construction protects the valuable load under all circumstances.

The Flexliner has two decks, both compartments have an internal height of approximately 1,820 mm. Usually for general cargo missions, more than 80% of the loads are lower than 1,800 mm, making them perfect for transport on a Flexliner. The load capacity of the second deck is 625 kg/m2; whereas the first floor can withstand 850 kg/m2. Therefore the weight of most cargo types is covered.

The trailer shown at the IAA is a refrigerated version. It is equipped with a temperature controlled unit and is certified according to ATP/FNA regulations. The unladen weight is only 11,500 kg (without refrigeration unit), giving it a payload potential of approximately 20,000 kg (depending on local road regulations). The loading length on the upper deck is 13,410 mm, in the lower deck nearly 10,000 mm. The width in both compartments is 2,460 mm. In between the axles, the width is 1,610 mm.

The Langendorf single wheel suspension is maintenance free and has been used for decades on Langendorf’s proven Glass and Concrete trailers which are exported all over the world.

The tail-lift has a capacity of 2.5 tonnes/m and is operated with an on board pump assembly. The 2,600 mm length of the tail-lift allows loading and unloading of up to four Euro pallets or six roll containers at the same time. The batteries for powering the tail-lift are built into the trailer and they are charged when driving.

Many other features complete the impressive specification. The first axle is equipped with the Wabco Opti Load module. The ECAs air suspension has three programmed driving heights. Both sides are equipped with rails for securing the load. There are LED lights on the outside and on the inside of the trailer, plus a camera is mounted at the rear to assist the driver when reversing.

The Flexliner outscores any other concept, because of its large volume, its easy independent loading and unloading possibilities and its capacity to be used with any standard tractor unit with a fifth wheel height of 1,150 mm.
