The year 2015 will become a year of hospitality in the region of Central Switzerland. To this aim, the Cantons of Lucerne, Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden and Nidwalden have come together to form an association which – with the participation of the Swiss Confederation and support from private parties – will celebrate the 200-year-old tourism history of the region, which also comprises the Canton of Zug. A broadly diversified range of activities and projects will focus on hospitality in the anniversary year. The centrepiece of the “guestival” will be the water lily, a floating platform on Lake Lucerne. A number of other core projects and a broadly-based guestival participation campaign will carry the anniversary into the heart of the population.
The water lily, which comprises a core and several leaves, will be partially manufactured by Emil Gisler AG. The 12 horizontal water lily leaves are all being made in the Seedorf facility, driven to the banks of the lake by special transport, loaded onto a pontoon by a mobile crane and subsequently towed to Lucerne for final assembly.
Just one single water lily leaf has dimensions of 8.5 m by 9.0 m and weighs 5.5 tonnes.
