Last month, Liebherr surprised visitors to the bauma trade fair in Munich with a world debut: the world’s first battery-powered drilling rig LB 16 unplugged, jointly developed with SUNCAR HK, was presented to the public.
With an exhibition area of more than 600,000 m2 and more than half a million visitors, bauma Munich is the world’s leading trade fair for the construction industry and therefore the ideal occasion for the presentation of a world novelty. Thus, Liebherr, one of the world’s largest construction machine manufacturers, presented its latest innovation, developed together with SUNCAR HK, to the construction industry at bauma 2019.
The LB 16 unplugged is the electric version of the LB 16. The LB 16 is a drilling rig, operated by combustion engine and well-established in the Liebherr product portfolio. The new LB 16 unplugged is powered by batteries and as its name tells you: wireless. There are no restrictions in performance and application of the LB 16 unplugged when compared to the conventional version LB 16. The 55 t electro-hydraulic LB 16 unplugged can be easily operated during a whole working day thanks to its battery run time of 10 hours. The battery can then be fully recharged within seven hours at night.
The advantages of the LB 16 unplugged are clear: It does not cause any local emissions and significantly less noise. The electric drilling rig can, therefore, be used in environments with strict emission regulations as well as in areas sensitive to noise.
The new and sustainable drilling rig met with great interest and enthusiasm among bauma’s visitors.
Daniel Vincenz, Managing Director Technology of SUNCAR HK, looks back with great pleasure on this joint project with Liebherr: “We are proud to have contributed to this pioneering product as development partner. We would like to thank our client Liebherr for the excellent cooperation”.
