Multiply the average lifespan of your mower knives by 5

Knives are among the most important elements of disc mowers. They are subject to various stresses during work : abrasion from mowing, impurities from the base of stems, impacts with obstacles like stones and mole hills. The lifespan of knives can vary enormously depending on these conditions and the cutting height. In some conditions, knives have to be replaced frequently.

KUHN now offers new knives featuring:

  • 5 mm thickness (instead of the usual 4 mm)

  • 55 mm useful width (instead of 46 mm)

  • A bevelled edge positioned in such a way to make the knives reversible and keep the bevelled edge on the underside.

These new knives can be fitted to all KUHN mowers and mower conditioners equipped with OPTIDISC cutter bars and produced after the end of 2010, no matter whether they are bolt-fitted or FAST-FIT. You just have to replace the original securing pins and nuts to hold the thicker knives in place. Tests carried out worldwide have highlighted the great advantages of these features:

  • Excellent resistance to abrasion with lifespans often four to five times longer !

  • High resistance to deformation, appreciable for farmers who work in stony conditions or with mole hills. Their resistance to deformation can be compared to curved knives used in certain regions.

  • Improved forage flow to the rear.

  • The double bevelled edge remains on the underside even after reversing the knife and improves the self-sharpening effect for a high quality cut.

  • Reduced maintenance costs due to the particularly favourable « cost / lifespan » ratio, as well as time savings gained from fewer replacements.
