New Bobcat Telehandler boosts profits on farm

After years of impressive performance from their Bobcat skid-steer loaders, first a second hand 753 and currently a new S150 model, the Els Clapers farm in Moià near Barcelona has further increased efficiency and profitability by purchasing a new Bobcat T2250 telehandler.

Contributing to the increased flexibility is the Bob-Tach attachment system which the T2250 telehandler shares with the S150 skid-steer loader, allowing the farm to use the same attachments on the two machines for work on the farm.

Els Clapers rears Friesian dairy cattle and the farm has been passed down from one generation to the next, maintaining traditions but continually updating the facilities at the farm, increasing mechanisation and automation for enhanced convenience and to reduce costs.

Joan Serra and his son Jordi Serra currently manage the family business.  Joan said:  “We use the new T2250 telehandler.to carry out jobs at height, such as stacking bales of hay in the barn and loading trailers or trucks. This complements the work of the compact loader. It also offers us great versatility and profitability.

“Versatility because we can use the same attachments on both machines. The Bob-Tach system is the same on both; practical, convenient and allowing attachments to be changed in a simple manner.  And profitability because this allows us a great saving on attachments. Otherwise we would have to spend twice as much. Now we use the loader’s bucket, grapple and fork attachments continuously for the hay bales, but we know there is virtually an infinite variety of other attachments available from Bobcat that will allow us to work with the required quality and precision when we have such a need.”

Els Clapers has approximately 200 milkproducing cows that must be looked after, fed and milked on a daily basis while the facilities where they are kept must be cleaned and maintained. In addition to caring for the dairy cows, the farm is also responsible for breeding cattle, primarily the calves born on their own farm.

Joan Serra carries out these routine jobs using the Bobcat compact loader, which he calls “the queen of the farm”, due to its great versatility. “I started doing some jobs using a second-hand Bobcat 753, which lasted us for more than 10 years. We were delighted with the results from the compact loader and would have been lost without it. For this reason, we have now replaced it with the new Bobcat S150 compact loader model. We do practically everything with this compact loader. It is like carrying a bucket and cart around with you, but everything is mechanised. I will give you this example of how easy, convenient and effective it is to manage. Nowadays with the Bobcat S150, we do any job, no matter what it is. Cleaning, feeding the animals, carrying bales of hay or loose feed, tidying up the access for the animals and even removing snow in winter when the entrance gets blocked.
