  • Optimas Finliner material spreader bucket with 1.4 m³ capacity is used for verge maintenance at Cologne/Bonn Airport.

  • The Finliner is a hydraulically operated attachment compatible with various carrier machines, featuring a quick-change adapter plate for easy attachment.

  • The bucket's funnel-shaped design prevents material spillage, and it includes a leveling device for precise material distribution.

  • The Finliner is versatile, suitable for tasks such as spreading concrete, topsoil, asphalt, gravel, and even road salt.

  • The reliability and speed of the Finliner are crucial for operations in high-security areas like airports, where downtime must be minimized.

Cologne/Bonn Airport “Konrad Adenauer” covers an area of approx. 1,000 ha and has three runways. Their total length is around 8,000 meters. The verges of these approximately 60m wide concrete runways must be continuously maintained. The Optimas Finliner material distribution shovel was purchased for this purpose.

Material distribution bucket with conveyor belt

The “Finliner” is a material distribution bucket with 1.4m³ material capacity. There are also models with 0.5m³ and 1m³. The Finliner is operated hydraulically and is an attachment for wheel loaders, tractors, telescopic handlers, Unimogs, etc., regardless of manufacturer. "Finliner" is fixed to its carrier machine by a quick-change adapter plate. Attaching and disattaching takes just one minute only. Material distribution is done sideways in driving direction from right-hand side while carrier machine moves straight along distribution edge as e.g. along a road. Optionally for Finliner 1.4 m³ (specially for telescope loaders), material distribution can be done sideways in driving direction from left-hand side. Dosage of material is controlled by the speed of the conveyor belt and the driving speed of carrier machine.

Flexible applications

The 1.4 m³ Finliner material distribution bucket has a funnel-shaped design. That design warrants no beside dropping of material during filling of bucket. Filling is usually carried out directly from truck or loader. Length of the conveyor belt that transports the material out of the bucket is 2.50m. Filling width of the bucket: 2.6m, height of the front edge: 0.82m and a weight of: 1120 kg. The Finliner is equipped with rollers that makes it easy to move the bucket. In order to achieve a consistent and precise width and height of backfilled material, the Finliner is equipped with a leveling device which consists of a frame and a screed blade that can be adjusted in height and width as required. The leveling device is manufactured out of solid steel. That allows to scrape out old material. The leveling device of 1.4m³ bucket can be simply folded up during journey to next application spot. This reduces the overall width of Finliner and the vehicle remains roadworthy.

Useful for many tasks

Largest Optimas Finliner material distribution bucket has a capacity as described of 1.4 m³. There are also two smaller versions with 1m³ and 0,5m³ available. Working principle remains the same, the areas of application are diverse: spreading of foundation and backing concrete, edge construction, spreading of topsoil in planned grass verges; sanding of trenches and pipes, spreading of asphalt during repair works, sanding of drainage trenches, spreading of gravel/chippings in verge construction. Distribution of road salt in salt containers, distribution of wood chips in planting strips, flood protection: filling sand hoses or sandbags. Gravel, sand, concrete and much more can be distributed, even asphalt paving is possible with a heat-resistant conveyor belt (optionally).

Demanding airport use

If work has to be carried out in the security areas as e.g. at the airport, extensive safety measures are necessary. This can also include the closure of a runway. As these periods are kept very short, the machines must be absolutely reliable and fast. That are further important arguments in favor of Optimas Finliner material distribution shovel. The airport specialists were able to experience this reliability during the instruction session.
