Over 13,000 people crossed the gates of Piacenza Expo to visit the 41 thousand square meters of the biggest European Trade Show dedicated to the users of Cranes, Aerial Work Platforms, Telehandlers, Port and Industrial Handling Equipment and Heavy Transport Vehicles.
There were record number of visitors at GIS, whose 8th edition closed its doors on October 9th at the Piacenza Expo. Over 13,000 entries were registered during the three opening days of the exhibition & conference, which is dedicated to the sectors of lifting and work at height equipment, industrial and port handling machines and specialized transport vehicles.
“At the end of the second day alone”, says Fabio Potestà, Managing Director of Mediapoint & Exhibitions and GIS organizer, “we recorded a number of visitors almost equal to the whole GIS 2019”. These numbers are confirmed, “given that our fair is audited by ISFCERT”, adds Potestà, who said he
was delighted about the success of the event.

“At the 8th edition of GIS an important segment of the Italian economy was on display”, says Potestà, “In our Country there is a strong recovery and, even during the lockdown period due to Covid, this sector worked at full strength: the construction of the San Giorgio Bridge in Genoa clearly demonstrates this. The logistics and heavy transport companies showed a strong commitment to the Country’s needs and the lifting companies also provided their services to a lot of contractors”.
For the outstanding success of GIS 2021, we also have to thank for their support the 67 Italian and foreign associations, some of which also organized interesting conferences mainly focused this year on the safety and formation of the operators.
It was also well received by the participants the first edition of GIS BY NIGHT, an event which made the whole exhibition centre an attractive area to relax, mingle and network with a vast variety of offerings from drink and food to attractions and music entertainment.
As a tradition, ITALA (Terminal & Logistics), ITALPLATFORM (Access Platforms) and ILTA (Lifting & Transportation) Awards were delivered during GIS 2021.
Particularly significant and touching was the delivery of the awards to careers (among them, Renato Bonfanti for Itala, Renzo Pagliero and Davide Palazzani for Italplatform, Pierluigi Tonon, Michele Marraffa, Diego Vernazza and Giovanni Petri for Ilta).
"This exceptional edition of GIS", concludes Potestà, "has generated an increase in the demand for exhibit space both by the consolidated exhibitors and by companies that had never participated in the exhibition. This suggests that GIS 2023 - whose dates will be made public shortly - will certainly be bigger, which is gratifying given all the commercial efforts we have made for our event over the years both in Italy and abroad”.
