  • AAS Altwagen Abholservice Wolfgang Schneider GmbH has started recycling electric cars, processing around 400 electric vehicles last year.

  • The company has purchased a second ATLAS 250 MH material handling machine to handle the increasing volume of end-of-life vehicles.

  • The ATLAS 250 MH features a 129 kW/175 hp engine, ATLAS AWE-5 hydraulics, and a multi-shell grab capable of lifting up to 15 t.

  • The machine's cab can be hydraulically extended to a height of 5.52 m, providing a better overview and a comfortable, quiet workspace for the operator.

  • AAS is a certified specialist waste disposal and dismantling company, active in Hesse with 25 employees and a fleet of 10 HGVs.

  • ATLAS Nordhessen has been a reliable partner to AAS for over 40 years, providing personal advice and service to ensure the right machine selection for economic and efficient operations.

AAS Altwagen Abholservice Wolfgang Schneider GmbH from Reichelsheim (Wetterau) has also started recycling electric cars about a year ago. “We looked into how this is done in Austria so that we could use these techniques here too,” says Nedko Ivanov, managing director of the company. Around 400 electric vehicles were recycled last year, with an upward trend. This is still a small number in comparison to the 30,000 vehicles per year with conventional drives. AAS has now purchased a second ATLAS material handling machine so that it can handle the volume of end-of-life vehicles even more economically.

Powerful and robust – 25 t ATLAS with fast upper carriage

The 250 MH material handling machine boasts a 129 kW/175 hp engine and is equipped with ATLAS AWE-5 hydraulics. Reach of up to 12.65 m is possible. A multi-shell grab is mounted for AAS. It can lift up to almost 15 t. That is made possible thanks to its very solid base. The four claws provide a good foundation. The undercarriage is designed to provide ideal stability. The capability of swivelling the upper carriage quickly is an advantage in recycling operations. 360° rotation is possible eleven times per minute with the ATLAS. The 250 MH is required to handle heavy loads at AAS, but it must also work with the utmost precision when handling smaller loads. The Linde hydraulics, solid structure, slewing motor and multi-shell sorting grab make all this perfectly possible.

Best workplace at heights of over 5 m - quiet cab

“Scrap metal is an important raw material. It is delivered to steelworks, which then use it to make new materials for manufacturers of machinery, cars, construction equipment, etc.,” says Ivanov. The cab can be hydraulically extended to a roof height of 5.52 m (5.01 m eye level) to give a better overview of the mountains of end-of-life vehicles, which can reach considerable heights. A comfortable workplace with air conditioning, freedom of movement in the cab, a clear overview, a comfortable seat, cameras for monitoring the sides and rear, modern operating elements as well as an excellent display. The quiet cab with a noise level of only 71 d(B)A in the interior is another plus for the driver.

Active in Hesse

AAS is a certified specialist waste disposal and dismantling company. It was founded in 1972 and now has 25 employees, 10 HGVs that collect vehicles on site, 2 presses, and several excavators in its recycling facility, including two ATLAS material handlers. AAS recycles HGVs, buses, conventional and electric vehicles. AAS is a certified end-of-life vehicle collection company and partner of Opel. It has divided Hesse into 16 collection regions for organizational purposes. The appropriate vehicles arrive quickly on site and take the end-of-life vehicle away. Recycling is also possible on site. Fluid removal, cable and plastic dismantling, etc., and grouting can also be undertaken on the move.

Conceptual extraction of raw materials

ATLAS Nordhessen has served as a reliable partner to AAS Altwagen Abholservice Wolfgang Schneider GmbH for over 40 years now. ATLAS Nordhessen, together with ATLAS Engel and BauCharter Gerätevermietung, makes up the MSG Maschinen Service Group. Some 65 employees and 14 service vehicles are in daily operation for customers in northern and central Hesse as well as Saxony-Anhalt from the headquarters in Borken near Kassel and three other bases.

The focus here is not only on providing rapid assistance in the event of a service call or a quick repair, but primarily on offering personal advice. After all, the key to working economically and successfully is selecting the right ATLAS machine for the task at hand. Complex requirements, such as those in the end-of-life vehicle sector, demonstrate just how important experience, industry knowledge and a trained eye for detail are.

Atlas Nordhessen not only sees itself as a dealer, but also as a partner to its customers. The objective is to offer solutions relating to day-to-day operations that truly deliver – from the large machine to the many small details that make a difference.

Solid and economical work machine

You need a robust machine for what can sometimes be tough work in metal recycling. And it has to be economical to run. The ATLAS 250 MH delivers on both counts. The design, with its precisely coordinated elements and material thicknesses, is conceived for the heavy mechanical stresses involved in vehicle handling and therefore provides a sound economic basis. Wear and tear is kept to a minimum. The three operating modes – Fine, Eco, and Power – of the hydraulics limit fuel consumption down to a low and therefore very economical level. ATLAS can draw on a wealth of experience in mobile material handling machines and mobile excavators. This extensive knowledge is reflected in the outstanding machine design. This was another reason why AAS decided to purchase another ATLAS material handling machine.
