SBM Mineral Processing Expands all along the Line

SBM Mineral Processing, an Austrian enterprise with a long-standing tradition, ranks among the leading manufacturers of mineral processing and conveying plants for natural stones and recycling industries, and concrete mixing plants for prefab and ready-mixed concrete as well as the corresponding service & support.  In August 2011, SBM was taken over by the shareholders of the company MFL - Maschinenfabrik Liezen und Gießerei Ges.m.b.H. This take-over was aimed at using the synergies existing between MFL and SBM to strengthen both brands known for highest possible quality standards in the global market. In January 2013, this process was successfully completed by integrating MFL’s Division Mineral Processing into SBM. Together, SBM and MFL have more than 120 years of technological know-how and 130 employees.

INTEGRATION: MFL Mineral Processing Part of SBM
In the beginning of 2013, Sales, Design and After Sales Service of MFL’s Division Mineral Processing were integrated into SBM Mineral Processing GmbH. Manufacturing takes place within the company Maschinenfabrik Liezen und Gießerei Ges.m.b.H. This last step has completed the integration process of both enterprises.

The announced strategy “we take the best of both brands“ was also realised when combining the companies. One example for this successful process is the mobile crushing and screening plant REMAX 1111 MAXI delivered to the Netherlands last year. Crusher and electric system were supplied by MFL, control system, conveyor belts, chutes and screens were provided by SBM. The new bauma exhibition plant REMAX 1112 MAXI is another example for successfully making use of synergies: SBM will provide the proven control system, radio control offering additional functions will be supplied by MFL.

EXPANSION: Concrete Branch Covers Stationary Concrete Mixing Plants Again
SBM has not only boosted in the field mineral processing, the segment concrete technology has been set to expansion as well. In October 2012, stationary concrete mixing plants were added to the concrete branch again making SBM a full-range supplier for prefab and ready-mixed concrete.
The high-quality supplier from Upper Austria does not break entirely new ground with stationary concrete mixing plants. Since the beginning of the 1980s, numerous stationary plants were built all over the world. Ing. Gerhard Gschwandtner and Ing. Helmuth Neubacher, a new member of the team for stationary plants, head this business field. They are supported by a team of experts with more than 35 years of experience in concrete technology.

SUPPORT: Managing Director Johannes Weiermair on the Future of SBM
Since last year the managing board of SBM Mineral Processing GmbH has been supported by mechanical engineer Johannes Weiermair, 46, who is looking towards the future of SBM full of confidence: the extension of the markets, a very strong team, two brands under one roof and the expansion of the product range - in the fields concrete technology and mineral processing - are at the top of his agenda. “Owing to the integration of MFL mineral processing and the expansion of the concrete business unit, SBM has 130 employees again,“ says Weiermair.

PERSPECTIVE: Around the World with Mineral Processing
“We will strengthen our presence in the field Mineral Processing in Russia and Africa where SBM and MFL traditionally hold strong positions. In North Africa, MFL is mainly known thanks to the mobile sector, and SBM is known due to stationary plant engineering. We will continue this path and expand to the rest of the continent.” In Russia, we currently recognise increasing demands for mobile and semi-mobile crushing and screening plants.”

In the Americas, Weiermair sees a great demand especially in Canada and Latin America. “We feel very confident that our high-quality products perfectly meet customers’ requirements especially in Latin America’s small and medium-size mining companies. Our sturdy and durable mobile plants are provided with a change-over switch for generator or mains operation and are absolutely reliable even in extreme altitudes.” Last year, SBM has begun to build an effective distributor network in Latin America and is already presented at exhibitions. ”Feedback is good; we feel confident about the future and are expanding our distributor network beyond Chile.“

PERSPECTIVE: SBM Quality Asked for in the Concrete Field
”In the segment concrete mixing plants, SBM is focussing on the DACH region, Scandinavia and Russia where demand for our high quality standard for concrete production is especially high,” summarises Weiermair the situation of the second product segment of SBM. Additionally, SBM concrete mixing plants with their “winter package” are perfectly suited for difficult weather conditions. Adding stationary concrete mixing plants to its product portfolio again makes SBM a full-range supplier for prefab and ready-mixed concrete.
