Seamless integration of the collaborative product into existing systems and the MESDA ecosystem
MESDA Germany is expanding its portfolio of solutions and intensifying its cooperation with HAKO BAU. MESDA is now marketing the HAKO WS 1200-1600 lightweight material separator as a system addition for its mobile processing plants. This combination enables recycling companies to reliably meet the strict requirements of the new German Substitute Building Materials Ordinance (EBV) and opens up new areas of application in concrete production through the production of high-purity, recycled aggregate.
Lightweight material contamination in construction waste is a typical problem in the industry. In order to achieve the required quality for quality-assured recycled building materials, impurities such as plastic, wood or polystyrene must be reliably removed from the mineral material stream. In particular, the Substitute Building Materials Ordinance, which has been in force nationwide since 2023, sets strict standards here with Recycling Class 1 (RCL 1). Conventional methods such as wind sifting often reach their limits here – especially in the production of recycled concrete aggregates, where even the smallest impurities are visible on the concrete surface and reduce quality.
‘The deepened partnership with HAKO BAU is a logical step for us in order to offer our customers a reliable complete solution,’ says Enrico Kallmeyer, Managing Director of MESDA Germany. ‘The lightweight material separator is the perfect addition to our screening and crushing plants. It not only enables users to meet the strict EBV requirements, but also to tap into new markets and significantly increase added value by refining the material.’

Superior separation technology for demanding applications
The HAKO WS 1200-1600 operates according to the float-sink process, which uses water as a separating medium. Due to the large differences in density in the water, light materials are separated from the heavy mineral components with high efficiency. The result is a clean end product free of impurities, which is ideal for demanding applications. The machine processes pre-screened material in sizes from 10 to 63 mm and is available in three sizes with a capacity of 30 to 60 m³/h.
Lars Fürhölter, Managing Director of HAKO BAU GmbH, explains the advantages of the collaborative product in conjunction with MESDA solutions: ‘Compatibility was at the forefront of the collaboration. The lightweight material separator is specially designed for the MESDA ecosystem. It can be easily integrated into any existing recycling plant and is perfectly matched to MESDA plants in terms of material transfer.’
Flexible, economical and low maintenance
In addition to its high separation performance, the machine impresses with its cost-effectiveness and user-friendliness. Its advantages include low operating costs, a small footprint and a low-maintenance design. Users also benefit from lower disposal costs and the option of direct further processing of the material. The compact design also allows for easy transport and flexible positioning on the construction site or recycling centre. The system solution from MESDA and HAKO thus offers users maximum flexibility and efficiency in the production of high-quality recycled building materials.
